Moodboards

Thinking concepts...

Obviously Walt Disney is a very fun and friendly company and they try and portray this in their collateral. Two concepts will both incorporate colour and as much fun as an annual report can have.

FIRST THOUGHTS ON CONCEPT

Still tossing up between colours and sourcing from palettes and making my own range.

However my two different ideas go as follows...

_ Having one with Splashes of colour along with the older images of walt disney and the characters etc

_ Having the other with modern images - studio shots to show the new age and work the text with the images

Both need to incorporate the core values of the company. They are a fun and friendly company.

The logo for Walt Disney is the 'Mickey Mouse - head silhouette'. This is a unique icon and I don't believe you can go wrong using that as an element in the design.

Obviously the report has to reflect the company but it is also an important document and needs not to be too distracting from the facts. To the point as well.

Infographic-wise I think it's going to be a test to create something different and interesting. Sourced examples...

Playing with different shapes to form the graph would be interesting however sometimes the message is lost. I guess it's just a matter of trial and error to see what works best: be it a normal graph or pie chart or something unique.

Spreads-wise it is essential to have a constant grid to create a flow through the information. It is already a difficult document to read for some so the easier the better for both the client and their audience.
I feel after plenty of research it is all about creating a line through the report. A reading line as such...something that leads and continues through the report.

Understanding

After some information was passed on today I am further understanding the requirements for this project. I feel like a change is neccessary.

I am now feeling confident with the DISNEY 2006 annual report and the pages I have to work with. I do hope that I have understood this correctly.

These are the pages I wish to work with (overview, 2xdouble spreads of information including infographics and double page spread of finances)

Bit of research into the esteemed Walt Disney company.

The Walt Disney Company (NYSEDIS), commonly referred to as Disney, is an American multinational diversified mass media corporation headquartered in Walt Disney StudiosBurbank, California, United States. It is the largest media conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue.[3] Founded on October 16, 1923, by Walt and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, music, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Studios, and today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney ChannelESPNA+E Networks, and ABC Familypublishingmerchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 14 theme parks around the world. It also has a successful music division. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company

Logo hasn't changed all that much over time, just used differently when required.

Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel

After my little pitty-me-party I am sorting through the annual reports and found some with pages to work with.

I am still however having trouble with finding ones that work for all our purposes. Most already have been designed with such grace and hierarchy and ease that I'm afraid changing it won't help but hinder the report. We shall see...

Lost

Feel completely stumped.

Thought I had settled on ACCOR annual report to choose pages from. However I am finding that some pages can be done again but others are impressive and if changed would feel like an injustice...I don't know if I can make any of these better or innovative. Being sick probably doesn't help my whingy-ness right now either.

Hopefully the flow comes back asap
